The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 is now law. It gives the government the power to introduce new requirements.
Schools doen’t need to make any changes immediately – some of the guidance is still being consulted on or finalised, and we’re awaiting secondary legislation.
Some of the key changes to come include:
- Allergy safety
- Ban on smartphones in schools
- School uniform
- Breakfast club provision
- New expectations for academies to align with the maintained sector
- Academy trust-wide inspection
The Act is avialable on the government website, here.
A summary of the Act is provided on The Home Ed Daily, here. If you have a subscription to The Key, they also have a summary here. The NGA also have an article about it here.
