In the wake of the recent Oftsed report in Derbyshire Council’s SEND provision, the LA has published its impact plan. In the plan’s introduction they note:
“The Partnership has apologised for these failings and is committed to addressing all the areas identified in the inspection report through this Impact Plan. The Impact Plan establishes the work the Partnership will undertake over the next eighteen months and is the starting point of the journey we need to take moving forwards.”
The plan cover’s the LA’s plans over six impact areas:
- identify the needs of children and young people with SEND in the local area and have a strategy for responding to these needs;
- ensure that there is a strategic partnership commissioning agreement in place based on a thorough joint strategic needs assessment;
- assess and provide for the needs of children and young people with SEND jointly and accurately;
- urgently address the number of children and young people with SEND missing education;
- accelerate plans to improve communication with parents and other key stakeholders in order to explain changes they have made to their area’s services;
- address the current waiting times for community paediatric assessments, neurodevelopmental and mental health support, and assessments.
It provides the LA’s proposed responses in each of these areas. You can read and download the plan from the LA’s Local Offer website, here.
