Legislation breaks down barriers to opportunity for all children

The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill was introduced to Parliament on 17 December 2024, The Bill sets out seven key ambitions:

  • Making a child-centred government
  • Keeping families together and children safe
  • Supporting children in the care system to thrive
  • Cracking down on excessive profit making
  • Driving high and rising standards for every child
  • Removing barriers to opportunity in schools
  • Creating a safer and higher quality education system for every child

This includes a number of policies, some of which are:

  • Expanding the scope of regulation includes a clearer definition of what Full-time education means
  • School uniforms: limit on branded items;
  • Children not in school to include changes to the School Attendance Order (SAO) process;
  • Ofsted powers of entry and investigations will permit HMCI to enter and investigate premises in certain specified situations;

There are too many to list here, but you can read a summary of them on the DfE website here, and you can view the Bill itself, here.
