We need to continue to be vigilant and maintain appropriate systems in our schools to ensure that they are secure from cbyer threats. The DfE has issued a number of standards that schools need to meet. The issue is taken seriously by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as exemplified by this recent reprrimand issued to a MAT for failure to follow advice.

Derbyshire council provides support to its school via the Cyber Ready Project which runs until July 2024. Derbyshire County Council maintained schools can join the scheme for free, and Derbyshire academies, and schools and MATs from other areas are welcome to join for a fee. The Cyber Ready Project provides staff training (a DfE requirement), a comprehensive assessment of cyber security status, and a follow-up gap analysis detailing what you need to do to meet nationally recommended minimum standards in cyber security.
