England School Meals Report

This year’s England School Meals Report, created in collaboration with BlueRunner, ParentPay and LACA, is now available and has the following main conclusions:

  • School meal uptake is high across England, with 84% of pupils having a school meal at least once a week and 59% having school meals every day.
  • The top three factors that would encourage increased school meal uptake are a wider selection of meals, meals being better quality or more appetising, and a lower cost per meal.
  • Only 4% of secondary school parents in England currently have the option to pre-order meals, compared to 67% who would like to be able to.
  • 88% of parents in England who are eligible for free school meals use them, with the vast majority (93%) of them telling us that free school meals ‘definitely’ or ‘somewhat’ improved quality of life for them and/or their children.
