At the Conservative Party Conference, one of the few new (i.e. previously unannouced) initiatives is the plan to scrap A and T Levels and create a new Advanced British Standard, a new Baccalaureate-style qualification for 16 to 19 year olds.
The DfE have published a report “A world-class education system: The Advanced British Standard” that sets out its vision for the new qualification:
- A system that combines technical and academic routes
- A system that offers more time with a teacher
- A system that embeds a strong core
- A system that balances breadth and depth
- A system that has a clear offer for everyone
The report ends by stating that “we will launch a formal consultation on the approach and design of our new qualification” with a new White Paper due next year. You can download the new report using the link below.
