Permanent exclusions and suspensions in England, 2021-22

The most recent Department for Education data on exclusions paints a worrying picture of increasing trends in exclusions, with disadvantaged children being the most affected. The Social Work News website notes “For the first time, the majority of suspensions are of children living in poverty, further widening the poverty gap in lost learning.” and further goes on to state:

[The] Who’s Losing Learning? Coalition aims to reveal the extent of post-pandemic lost learning and its disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable … The Coalition’s new analysis has found: The equivalent of 3,000+ children each day have been losing learning having being sent home from school, up from 2,300 in 2018/19.
